# Tank Robot Devlog
Went into the makerspace today to work on next steps for the tank robot. Needed some way to connect the BEC to the arduino, as I don't have a connector. Realized on the way there that I could cannabalize one of the AA battery power supplies for the barrel jack. One downside was that it wasn't immediately obvious which of the two nearly identical black wires was positive, and which was ground. I did notice that one had dashed gray lines on it though.
To find out which side was positive and negative, I used a 9v battery, and just tested both ways. I figured the arduino most likely had reverse current protection, so it shouldn't be an issue, especially with as low powered a battery as a 9v.
Turned out the grey dashed line wire was positive. With that squared away, I soldered everything together, and plugged it in to see if it all worked as expected. (it was possible that the 6v output of the BEC would be too low a voltage to power the arduino). Luckily it all worked first try, even despite my horrendous solder joints!
Next up is just getting everything tidied up and attached to the chassis. Rather than use a bread board, I realized I could just feed the motor controller off the radio receiver, as the ground and 5v line is a bus. Much cleaner solution.
I have photos and videos, remember to add them to this note later. (on my phone)
